The Canadian Surface Combatant SPY-7 Radar Earns Official Government of Canada Designation, Setting a New Standard in Airspace Threat Detection

Ottawa, ON, June 2, 2022 – Lockheed Martin’s (NYSE: LMT) advanced SPY-7 radar received its Government of Canada official nomenclature – AN/SPY-7 (V)3 – formally recognizing the radar’s maturity and proven ability. Delivering an expandable digital footprint, SPY-7 sets the standard for the future of radars.

“Lockheed Martin has worked diligently to develop SPY-7, the one-of-a kind interoperable, scalable technology chosen for the Canadian Surface Combatant,” said Glenn Copeland, general manager at Lockheed Martin Canada Rotary and Mission Systems. “This designation marks our commitment to ensuring these ships are well integrated into North American continental defence, able to protect Canada from emerging, complex and advanced threats.”

SPY-7 offers multi-mission capabilities, such as early warning, situational awareness, tactical surveillance and air defence. It also integrates the latest mature commercial technologies to create a revolutionary radar architecture. SPY-7 is currently leveraged across maritime and land platforms in the United States, Spain, and Japan.

The Canadian Surface Combatants are designed to meet the Royal Canadian Navy’s distinctive mission requirements in an increasingly complex global security environment. These ships will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, allowing Canada to conduct independent naval operations while simultaneously allowing for greater interoperability on par with NORAD and NATO allies and other partner nations.
