Lockheed Martin Canada Down-selected for Finnish Corvette Program

Lockheed Martin Canada has been down-selected by the Finnish Defence Forces to compete for the role of Combat Systems Contractor for the Finnish Navy’s new corvette program.

In December 2016, the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) issued a qualification solicitation to 12 international combat system integration companies.  The FDF has now down-selected three companies to move forward over the next year in a competition. The selected Combat Systems Contractor will work with the native shipyard, Rauma Marine Constructions, to deliver the new ships.

"This is a fantastic testament to our Canadian developed CMS 330 and integration capability – further validation of our world-leading offer in the international naval systems market.  This is also another exciting export opportunity, not only for us, but for our Canadian suppliers who will support our combat management system and integration delivery efforts, should we win.  We also look forward to working with companies in Finland in support of industrial participation and security of supply requirements.  Work on this program would be performed in Canada (at our Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax locations) and in Finland.  Manufacturing of the combat management system hardware would be conducted in our production facility in Ottawa, and software and systems development as well as integrated systems testing would be led from our Montreal and Halifax facilities.  Shipboard and land-based test site integration and trials would be conducted in Finland – our sourcing organization has already commenced activities with Finnish industry in preparation for this project” said Rosemary Chapdelaine, vice president and general manager Lockheed Martin Canada Rotary and Missions Systems.
